Employees have several, basic rights that are set out in the various employment laws in Ontario (provincially) and Canada (federally). These include the right to a minimum wage, the right to be paid wages on a regular schedule, to overtime pay, vacation, leaves of absence, and many others.
Interpreting exactly what these rights mean can sometimes be difficult. For example, although most employees are entitled to overtime pay, many are exempt (pursuant to O. Reg. 285/01). And although employees have the right to take vacation, employers typically have the right to schedule when those vacations are taken.
An employment lawyer can explain these details before you make a decision.
